Good Night at the Buzz

Just before the Ides of March, we had an awesome Wine Dinner at The Buzz in Boise, celebrating Italian wines. Superb appetizers, soup, salad, main dish and dessert. A good crowd was there to celebrate the feast. Thanks Cristi and Tommy and Peggy for a delightful evening. Left-Click any photo to see enlarged.

Oktoberfest at The Buzz

10Nov2015_1e_The-Buzz-Monthly_Blind-Tasting_Buzz-InsideA good, adventuresome wine dinner at The Buzz celebrating Oktoberfest. Roulade. Beer. Wine. Carmel Beer Ice Cream. And the ice cream that Cristi made was rich and smooth and delicious!! Keep it on the menu, Cristi!!! We took a culinary tour, as well as a wine tour and beer tour, through some of Germany. For instance, “…Schnitzel can be made with different types of meat. Jäger-Schnitzel – with mushroom sauce; Zigeuner-Schnitzel is a sauce of red peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomato paste, red wine and chicken broth; Cordon Bleu came from Switzerland and is a schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese.” These are just a few of the culinary discussions we had.

One of the better wines for the evening. [19] I know, it's not German.

Happy Holidays from “The Buzz”!

buzz_logo_cafe_building_bestThe Buzz Wine Dinner definitely had that Caribbean flare to it. Fun tacos. A super good Coconut Seafood Soup and pretty good Jerk Chicken – it’s all in the jerk sauce. If you are on a diet and counting your carbs, there was a total of 82.5g carbs tonight. My target is 60-64g of carbs per day. Oops! The best dish for the night, in my opinion, was the Coconut Seafood Soup, which also came in at 25.5g of carbs. It was soooooo good! Cristi and Tommy just got back from a Caribbean cruise, so the night was rushed. Thanks Peggy, for helping out again! Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged.

The Buzz Wine Club – Different Format

buzz_logo_cafeA different, but fascinating format change. Last month, Cristi asked and assigned, different parts of the meal to different people, i.e., Robin and I had the appetizer, another had the salad, another the soup etc. Much like a Progressive Dinner but without traveling around. I liked it and I hope that Cristi does this again.
The wines that went with dinner were paired pretty well. At least my scores were pretty good, mostly [17] and [18] out of [20]. Take a look at what we had and enjoy. Can’t beat the price – $20 per plate with usually 7 wines. See you next month? Maybe? I hope. Enjoy these photos of the evening. Cheers! Left-Click any of these photos ton see them enlarged. Next month will be Picnic Food. That sounds like fun!

Century Club Tasting Sequence at “The Buzz”

13Jan2015_1d_The-Buzz-Century-Club_Oops This is going to be an exciting year at the Buzz in Boise, inspite of the spills! They are going to present 100 different varietals this year so, as a participant, you will be able to get your Century Award. The Wine Dinner format will stay the same – 7 wines, two of which are Cristi’s Choice, and a 5-Course Dinner. The price will still be $20 a plate and that includes all of the wine! They are located at 2999 N Lakeharbor Ln., Boise and their phone for reservations is (208) 344-4321. You will find a link in the sidebar.
Here is a “run down” on what we had tonight. And as a note, I will use the [20] point rating; [20] is a superb and flawless wine that pairs well with the food. Anything less than a [15] should be avoided. Enjoy the photos and hope to see you at the next tasting in February. Cheers! Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged.

So, you might ask what is the Wine Century Club and how can I participate? From their website – use the link – we see that,

What is The Wine Century Club?
The Wine Century Club is for adventurous wine lovers worldwide. If you’ve tasted at least 100 different grape varieties, you’re qualified to become a member (click here for more information). If you haven’t tried 100 different grape varieties, but are interested in the concept, you’re welcome to all of our events. Please join us in promoting the awareness of uncommon wine grape varieties. We currently have 1,378 members worldwide.

Uncommon Grape Varieties?
The common grape varieties are typically considered the “big six”: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Does that mean Chenin Blanc, Sangiovese and Syrah are considered exotic? No, but when you really get down to it, every wine grape variety is considered ordinary or typical in some part of the world, which makes trying “uncommon” wine grape varieties all the more fun: you can be transported to a faraway place with just a sip!

To Become a Member:
