Washington Apple Cup

Sunset at Parma Ridge Winery and Bistro
It was a really beautiful night and sunset. Tis is one of those “moments in time” photos that I captured.
Many, many thanks to Stephanie and Chef Storm Hodges for opening the winery and tasting room – and their beautiful house – for this 1st Annual Apple Cup Party. (It celebrates the football game between the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars. Both teams were well represented!) Hopefully, Robin and I will be included next year. Bring more wine!
Chef Storm prepared some awesome Washington Beef! Also was Brocoli Rabe, Mushrooms in Marsala, Chicken Skewers and Potatoes and Gravy. (There are photos below) If you want to see any of these photos enlarged, Left-Click them. Enjoy these photos and the delicious meal we had. Cheers!

Great Valentines Wine Dinner!

09Feb2016_1_The-Buzz-Choco_Entrance-PlantsGreat to see so many people attending last night. Almost a sell-out crowd! And they all had a really super meal and some great wine p;arings and information. If you missed this one, you missed a great one!
As far as I am concerned, there were some terrific wines presented. High scoring. 3 – 17’s, 1 – 18 and 2 – 19’s. Actually, I think the wine that took over was the 2014 Dry Creek Heritage Zinfandel. But then, if you know me, you know that I am partial to a good Zin. And the entree that took First Place? Pork Medallions Crusted with Espresso and Chocolate. Served with Cauliflower and Pepper Medley with a Chocolate Drizzle. Oh Yum! There are photos below. Left-Click any of them to see enlarged. Cheers!

Awesome Leg of Lamb Easter Dinner and Wines

20April2014_1g_Captains-Shack-Easter_Lamb-Happy_Dinner-PlatedThis is probably one of the best lamb dinner we have had. I adapted it from a recipe found on Epicurious. Here is the link to our adapted recipe: Arugula, Spinach and Miner’s Lettuce Stuffed Lamb. The recipe is not for the faint of heart. But it is really fun to do. Give it a try. Take your time and enjoy the process. If you don’t have an already boned leg of lamb, here is one of our blog posts about boning a leg of lamb. Well worth the short time to view the video. How To Bone a Leg of Lamb. Enjoy the lamb. Most, but not all, of the products on our menu were from Idaho – Support Idaho Farmers: Buy Local. And we really try to do this. Here is our list: Wine – Sawtooth Winery; Lamb – Felzien Family Lamb; Garlic – River View Farms; Salad Greens and Herbs – Purple Sage Farms; Bread – Acme Bake Shop and Vegetables – Volcanic Farms. Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged. Cheers!

Wine Tasting of Ridge Winery Selections

09April2014_1a_Tastings-Ridge-Winery_Scott-Sprague-Presents-WineScott Sprague, Idaho Wine Merchant did a good job of presenting and explaining about the Ridge Winery wines at Tastings on Apple Street in Boise. Four very good wines were presented and all are discussed below. I enjoy visiting Tastings. The food is good and goes very well with the wines. I just wish that there was a menu listing on their web page. I could not find one. (Check the link above). I rated the wines on a 1-[20] scale. (Hope I never come across a [1] rated wine!) Enjoy these photos and Left-Click any of them to see enlarged. Cheers!
Note: Tastings just added a menu on their web page at Tastings Menu. Thanks for making this update to your web site!

A good selection, but not one of our choices. Easy to drink. Light. $21.00 [17]

Robin and I both agree one this wine. We feel that it was the best of the evening It went great with all the food we had as pictured below. Good enough to ask for a second pour. Great with the Crab Cakes. [19] $37.00

Not the best, but not the worse wine of the night. This one needs to be laid down for several years. It is big and high alcohol. It over powered the foods we had. It needs time. [18] $48.00

This was very, very good with just a touch of goat cheese. Yes, that’s right! I ate goat cheese and in this ravioli, it was good. Really superb, as was the Mac ‘N Cheese, too, with the 2012 Ridge Geyserville Zinfandel.

CRab Cakes with Slaw This is the reason I had to order a second pour of the Geyserville Cab. And it was a perfect match. How perfect? I would rate the wine with the carb a [20]. That perfect! Try it.
