“Holidays in May” at The BUzz

10May2016_2b_Camino-de-Santiago_Spanish-Countryside_Painted-2As our Son-In-Law Mac and his daughter Sophia slowly make their way along Camino de Santiago in northern Spain and pass by these wonderful “country” homes, we are at The Buzz eating some delightful food and drinking some special wines at the May Wine Dinner, “Holidays in May”. Cristie and her staff, Tommy and Peggy, did another great job. And thank-you Bailey for explaining Lacross to me. One of the best offerings tonight, although I don’t this it paired well with the selected wine, was the Albondiagas Soup – a Mexican meatball soup. And the Teruiyaki Pina Colada Burger with Zuchini Salad and Baked Beans was superb. Wonderful flavors. Here are soime photos from the evening. As a note, I did not get a good photo of the dessert, so yopu won’t see the Cookies and Strawberries. Oops!

TVWS Wine Buffet

TVWS LogoWell another wine dinner for the TVWS has come and gone.
Some mix-up in the presenters, but the dinner did go on. The members of the TVWS are so great in “stepping up to the plate” and that is exactly what they did. They knew what the buffet was going to be, so they went out and purchased Idaho wines for the dinner. Thank-You all who “covered” for the mistake and made the evening a success for the 34 people who were there. Thank-You too, Kathy Johnson, of Winery Seekers, for doing your part in Hosting. It is appreciated. Here are some photos from the evening.

“The Buzz” – Enoteria – Land of Wine

12Jan2016_1c_Buzz-Italian-wine_The-BuzzNo. Enoteria does not necessarily refer to The Buzz. However, there are many win es to be found at The Buzz. Enoteria, in this case, refers to Italy, or “the land of wine”. “… Because of its rich diversity of grape varieties and many acres dedicated to cultivated vines … In more ways than one, Italy became a gigantic nursery and a commercial hub positioned at the heart of the Mediterrean for what would become western civilation’s first ‘globally’ traded product – wine.” [wine lecture, The Buzz] As the vintners of Italy, primarily in the Tuscan region, became aggressively determined to enter the world stage as a major producer of wine, some of the best wines ever produced included the varietals Amarone, Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino and Passito de Pantelleria. Another true Italian wine is a Pinot Grigio – Pinot Gris is a copy, albeit sometimes a good copy.
My ratings of the wines tonight were comparatively high. There was nothing lower than [17] out of [20]. Look what we had and enjoy! We did. Such a great start to the new year. February Chocolate and Wine will be featured with some awesome chocolate dishes and in March look for Wines of France.

Grillin’ At The Buzz

15July2015_1_The-Buzz-BBQ_BottlesNow this was a different Monthly Wine Dinner with the Buzz Wine Club. One outstanding dish – Aussie Grilled Chicken Burger with Mexican Street Corn. I suggested to Cristi and Tommy that this sandwich go on the Bistro Menu. Tommy said maybe on special weekend events. Just let me know, I’ll be there. It’s that good. (See the photo below.) And I also thoroughly enjoyed the Mediterrean Grilled Chicken Salad. You did an awesome job Cristi and Tommy! Great menu. Enjoy these photos of the evenings festivities. Oh. You missed it? Well, see you next time for sure. Cheers! The notes that I have added to these photos comes directly from Cristi’s discussion of the wines and the foods. Australian burgers are built from the bottom up. Bun, pineapple, burger, beets, egg. Chili mayo and a pool of ketchup on the side. It is a riot of flavors, though, grounded by the rich base of the meat. The way the flavors blend together, is hard to describe.

(This is the sandwich I suggested to put on the bistro menu. It’s that good! The sauce on the corn is mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice and just a touch of cayenne.)

“Fire Up the Grill” at The Buzz

buzz_logo_cafe_building_bestIn my not so humble opinion, this was by far one of the best Wine Club Dinners at The Buzz! Everything tasted so very good and the paring with the wines was superb. The Grilled Potato Soup with Bacon Bits was awesome. And the sauce on the pulled pork brought the entire dish together and made for a great entree. The Beer Can Chicken Salad was a refreshing and cooling dish on a hot pre-Summer evening – 99 degrees here in Boise. Many thanks to Peggy, Joseph, Michelle and “The Kids” for helping out tonight. Cristi’s Choice Wines were a 2009 Cold Springs Riesling [18] $10.00 and a Cellar 616 Red Blend [16] $16.00. Both Idaho wines! Here is what we had for dinner tonight and the wines that went with the selections. You won’t see me rate a Pinot Noir higher than a Zin. But tonight, I did! Enjoy and Left-Click any of the photographs to see them enlarged. Cheers!

The Buzz – Picnic Fare Wine Dinner

buzz_logo_cafe_building_bestReally a good choice for this months Wine Dinner. Spring is in the air! Overall – Really a great paring of food and wine. The overall best wines, in my opinion, were the 2012 Lunatic Red. Great clarity and bouquet and a bng body. The finish was moderately long. It went very well with the Beef and Noodle Entree. It was a superb paring and my score was [18] out of [20], as was the 2013 Crisp Chardonnay. Here are some photos of the diner. Do enjoy them and hopefully, we will see you next month for Asian Fare on May 12 and 13. Mark your calendars and pick May 12! Cheers!

The Buzz Wine Club – Different Format

buzz_logo_cafeA different, but fascinating format change. Last month, Cristi asked and assigned, different parts of the meal to different people, i.e., Robin and I had the appetizer, another had the salad, another the soup etc. Much like a Progressive Dinner but without traveling around. I liked it and I hope that Cristi does this again.
The wines that went with dinner were paired pretty well. At least my scores were pretty good, mostly [17] and [18] out of [20]. Take a look at what we had and enjoy. Can’t beat the price – $20 per plate with usually 7 wines. See you next month? Maybe? I hope. Enjoy these photos of the evening. Cheers! Left-Click any of these photos ton see them enlarged. Next month will be Picnic Food. That sounds like fun!

Chocolate at The Buzz

buzz_logo_cafe_building_bestEverything, except the wine, had chocolate in it tonight! Chocolate may not have been the main ingredient in the food, but it was there in some amount. “Chocolate is made from plants – which means it contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables as part of an anti-aging diet. Flavonoids … act as antioxidants.” Cristi Takeda, owner of the Buzz and an RN, went on to say that, “Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants – nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries … Lowers blood pressure – small bar each day – and lowers cholesterol – reduces LDL up to 10%.” Interesting information. There is always something to learn at these Wine Dinners. Remember, “Stressed spelled backwards is Desserts. So, to reverse being “stressed” … CHOCOLATE!!!!” Here is what we had for dinner and the wines that went with each dish. Rated the wines on a [20] point scale. Enjoy!

And here is some interesting information. If you like an Ice Wine, just know that 1 year in 5 conditions will be right to make this wine. The grapes must freeze on the vines and then they are picked by hand frozen. An Ice Wine is very labor intensive.
Also, on February 28th, the Buzz is sponsoring a Fund Raiser for the orchestral group, Serenata. This is really one fantastic group. Please come out and support them! The next Wine Club Dinner is March 10th and again on the 11th. Hope to see you there! Cheers.
