Wine Dinner at Grit – American Cuisine and 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards Wines

A very good dinner and some fine wines. Grit – American Cuisine, located at 360 S Eagle Rd, Eagle, ID 83616, Hours: 11AM–9PM, Phone: (208) 576-6666, presented a very good wine dinner showcasing 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards, 900 Pearl Rd, Eagle, ID 83616, Phone: (208) 863-6561. This was thee first time Robin and I have been to Grit – American Cuisine and it is worth a 4-Star rating, out of 5-Stars. Good food, especially the French Lentil Soup, pictured below. It was superb. The appetizers, Seared Beef Filet and Crab Cakes with Aioli were also superb. They are also pictured below. The wines with the appetizers, a Roussanne, were paired perfectly. The wine with the soup, Eagle Foothills Sangiovese was also a perfect pairing. Left-Click any photo to see enlarged.
Gary and Martha Cunningham, owners of 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards, did a fantastic job keeping us informed about the wines that were served and some of the specifics of the wines. The parings with our dinner were well received. 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards is in the Eagle Foothills AVA, Idaho’s newest AVA. Look at what we had. Hope to see you next time at an interesting Wine Dinner someplace.

Capitol Cellars Hosts Parma Ridge Winery

The entrance at 5th and Main in the Belgrade Building.Such a great Wine Dinner hosted by Capitol Cellars in Boise. The featured wines were from Parma Ridge Winery. And if I may so bold as to say, if you need something to do on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, give the Parma Ridge Winery Restaurant a try. Chef Storm Hodges does an awesome job in the kitchen while Stephanie serves some great wines.
The wine dinner served consisted 1 appetizer and 3 entrees and Parma Ridge wines that were perfectly matched. The 2014 Merlot that was served with the Pork Ballontine is in short supply – they have mostly sold out. A wonderful Idaho Merlot and we were lucky enough to get 2 bottles! Yea! Here is how the dinner went. Delicious!

I did not get a photo of the appetizer, Amuse Bouche, an apricot-prosecco sorbet served with a 2015 Parma Ridge Winery Chardonnay. This was a super good chardonnay.

Exec Chef
Exec Chef Dave Shipley, “… As for the food, chef Dave Shipley, who worked with Dustan Bristol at Brick 29, was motioned to run the kitchen. He has a penchant for sourcing local and regional foodstuffs, like farmstead cheese from Ballard Family Dairy, greens from Purple Sage Farms and beef from Double R Ranch.”

Capitol Cellars did a fantastic job in preparing these entrees. Our hats are off to Exec Chef Dave Shipley. Wonderful job and it is great to see your using mostly local, Idaho products in your menu. From their website, “Our History – located in Boise’s historical Belgravia Building, Capitol Cellars opened its’ door in March 2015. Capitol Cellars takes pride in serving local cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full coffee bar and an extensive wine list.”

Hat Ranch/Vale Wines at Chandlers in Boise

Hat Ranch - Vale CollageChandlers Prime Steaks and Fine Seafood in Boise presented a wine dinner featuring Hat Ranch/Vale Wine Co Wineries. Great food and wines and we were privileged to be there. And I did find out that Hat Ranch Winery does have a Petit Verdot that is not blended with anything. It is 100%! One of the few and I do like a good Petit Verdot. We did start with a good Hors d’oeuvre of endive stuffed with Roquefort and walnut – which was very good – and a crostini with tapenade. Also served was puff pastry with fromage blanc. Whenever possible Chandlers uses all local, Idaho products.
But before we could start this fantastic wine dinner, we sat at the bar and asked the Bar Tender if he had a drink made with elderflower. In fact, he does – tow of them. One somewhat sweet and the other slightly tart. We got one of each to compare. I liked the somewhat tart one best. The drink is not on the bar menu, so you must ask for it.

The dinner bell was rung so we adjourned to the dining room. And this is what we had. Enjoy, we did!

Awesome First Day of Summer

Hat-Ranch-Winery-LogoClear blue skies! Light, cooling breezes! 88 degree temperatures. Only thing missing is a tempting ocean breeze. We spent the day both at Hat Ranch Winery off of Plum Road in Marsing (their postal address is in Caldwell) and the Snake River AVA and then to a wonderful dinner at The Orchard House. Hat Ranch was releasing their Tempranillo, which is very good. The Orchard House has good meatloaf.
Hat Ranch Winery bought Vale Wine Co., as some of you might already know. Some of the Vale wines were there for us to try also. Their Chardonnay is really a good one and will pare well with foods that need a citru match. Not an oaky chardonnay. The appetizers that they had to accompany the wines, see the photo of the menu board below, were a perfect match. Enjoy these photos and if you are in the area, stop in at both Hat Ranch Winery and The Orchard House. You won’t be disappointed. Cheers!

Orchard_House_Logo_2And then, we went to The Orchard House for dinner. Goodbye diet for today! We always enjoy the meals here. If I were to choose which meal I would constantly get here, it would definitely be the breakfast. It is just so satisfying. But today, we had a good Meatloaf dinner and an Idaho Trout dinner. This is one place that you can get a good meatloaf away from your own kitchen. The Orchard House is located at 14949 Sunnyslope Road, Caldwell (just outside of Marsing) in the Snake River AVA.

We had to check this bottle of wine out. It really is named for the Weiser Old Tyme Fiddlers Festival, which is just over for the year.

Northwest Wine Dinner at the Buzz in Boise.

This was an interesting wine dinner. Differently good! One does not often get spinach at a wine dinner. Hard to pair with the wine. The roasted tomato salad was good. There was no Miner’s Lettuce in it. The Miner’s Lettuce pictured here in in our garden. Here are the photos of the dinner and you be the judge as to whether it was different from the norm of wine dinners. I will score the wine on a [20] point rating system.
