Superb 36th Anniversary Party at Parma Ridge Winery and Bistro

It is not often that I rave about an eating place, but the Parma Ridge Winery and Bistro is one of our favorites and definitely a 5-Star eatery. Staff is awesome and Chef Storm and Stephanie Hodge, the owners, winemakers, artist and “chief cook and bottle washers”, sorta, are so humble, courteous and kind. Kudos to you both and to your superb staff! And Thank-You for such a great venue for our 36th wedding anniversary. The food was superb and the patio seating was great. Note: The winery and bistro are a great place to go Wednesday through Sunday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you had best call for reservations. Contact information is at the link above. Two Superb Wine Dinners for Father’s Day

The first one was on June 4th and we pared wines from 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards, 5900 Pearl Rd, Eagle, ID 83616. The second wine dinner was paring Koenig Vineyards, 21452 Hoskins Rd, Caldwell, ID 83607. Both wine dinners were at Chandlers Prime Steaks and Fine Seafood, 981 W Grove St, Boise, ID 83702. We had superb wines and food. If you are in Boise and want a fantastic meal – steaks and seafood being their primary dishes – be sure to go to Chandlers. Check all of the posted links for more information and their hours of operation. Enjoy these photos of the dinners. Let’s start with 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards. Wine Dinner at Grit – American Cuisine and 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards Wines

A very good dinner and some fine wines. Grit – American Cuisine, located at 360 S Eagle Rd, Eagle, ID 83616, Hours: 11AM–9PM, Phone: (208) 576-6666, presented a very good wine dinner showcasing 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards, 900 Pearl Rd, Eagle, ID 83616, Phone: (208) 863-6561. This was thee first time Robin and I have been to Grit – American Cuisine and it is worth a 4-Star rating, out of 5-Stars. Good food, especially the French Lentil Soup, pictured below. It was superb. The appetizers, Seared Beef Filet and Crab Cakes with Aioli were also superb. They are also pictured below. The wines with the appetizers, a Roussanne, were paired perfectly. The wine with the soup, Eagle Foothills Sangiovese was also a perfect pairing. Left-Click any photo to see enlarged.
Gary and Martha Cunningham, owners of 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards, did a fantastic job keeping us informed about the wines that were served and some of the specifics of the wines. The parings with our dinner were well received. 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards is in the Eagle Foothills AVA, Idaho’s newest AVA. Look at what we had. Hope to see you next time at an interesting Wine Dinner someplace.

Oktoberfest at The Buzz

10Nov2015_1e_The-Buzz-Monthly_Blind-Tasting_Buzz-InsideA good, adventuresome wine dinner at The Buzz celebrating Oktoberfest. Roulade. Beer. Wine. Carmel Beer Ice Cream. And the ice cream that Cristi made was rich and smooth and delicious!! Keep it on the menu, Cristi!!! We took a culinary tour, as well as a wine tour and beer tour, through some of Germany. For instance, “…Schnitzel can be made with different types of meat. Jäger-Schnitzel – with mushroom sauce; Zigeuner-Schnitzel is a sauce of red peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomato paste, red wine and chicken broth; Cordon Bleu came from Switzerland and is a schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese.” These are just a few of the culinary discussions we had.

One of the better wines for the evening. [19] I know, it's not German.

Capitol Cellars Hosts Parma Ridge Winery

The entrance at 5th and Main in the Belgrade Building.Such a great Wine Dinner hosted by Capitol Cellars in Boise. The featured wines were from Parma Ridge Winery. And if I may so bold as to say, if you need something to do on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, give the Parma Ridge Winery Restaurant a try. Chef Storm Hodges does an awesome job in the kitchen while Stephanie serves some great wines.
The wine dinner served consisted 1 appetizer and 3 entrees and Parma Ridge wines that were perfectly matched. The 2014 Merlot that was served with the Pork Ballontine is in short supply – they have mostly sold out. A wonderful Idaho Merlot and we were lucky enough to get 2 bottles! Yea! Here is how the dinner went. Delicious!

Exec Chef
Exec Chef Dave Shipley, “… As for the food, chef Dave Shipley, who worked with Dustan Bristol at Brick 29, was motioned to run the kitchen. He has a penchant for sourcing local and regional foodstuffs, like farmstead cheese from Ballard Family Dairy, greens from Purple Sage Farms and beef from Double R Ranch.”

Capitol Cellars did a fantastic job in preparing these entrees. Our hats are off to Exec Chef Dave Shipley. Wonderful job and it is great to see your using mostly local, Idaho products in your menu. From their website, “Our History – located in Boise’s historical Belgravia Building, Capitol Cellars opened its’ door in March 2015. Capitol Cellars takes pride in serving local cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full coffee bar and an extensive wine list.”

Blind Tasting at The Buzz

10Nov2015_1e_The-Buzz-Monthly_Blind-Tasting_Buzz-InsideNow here is a different program for a Wine Dinner. Serve the wines, but don’t tell anyone what they are. Can you identify the varietals? Good test! I failed! Robin won! Figures. But really a great and fun night. And the food Cristi served for dinner. I want the recipe for two of the dishes – the salad and the soup. They both were terrific! Delicious. We started off with two wines for Cristi’s Choice – she selects the wines that may, or may not, correspond to the wines and the food we are having. The white wine that she served was a White Pinot Noir from Oregon. I scored it a [18]. It had a great nose and was surprisingly good. The second wine she presented as a Cristi’s Choice was a Red Petit Verdot from Washington. It had to get a [19] and was, in my not so humble opinion, the best of the night. Petit Verdot is by far one of my favorite wines and to me, again IMNSHO, should NEVER be blended.
