A good, adventuresome wine dinner at The Buzz celebrating Oktoberfest. Roulade. Beer. Wine. Carmel Beer Ice Cream. And the ice cream that Cristi made was rich and smooth and delicious!! Keep it on the menu, Cristi!!! We took a culinary tour, as well as a wine tour and beer tour, through some of Germany. For instance, “…Schnitzel can be made with different types of meat. Jäger-Schnitzel – with mushroom sauce; Zigeuner-Schnitzel is a sauce of red peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomato paste, red wine and chicken broth; Cordon Bleu came from Switzerland and is a schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese.” These are just a few of the culinary discussions we had.
The Buzz is having a different kind of wine dinner this month. To celebrate Oktoberfest, they are including beer and wine to go with the dinner. This should really be a fun evening for everyone. Make sure,l though, that you make a reservation by calling The Buzz at (208) 344-4321. We usually go on Tuesday evening, so see you there!

Many, many thanks to Garry Scholz for putting on a great event, even though he was fighting laryngitis. Some really good wines were presented to almost 30 people who attended. It seems as though the pre-pay through Brown Paper Bag was a success. If you want to attend, you will need to buy tickets in advance of the event. The TVWS then informs Meadowlake of the number of people who have paid and will be attending. The fee is non-refundable! I had to find someone to take one of our tickets as Robin could not be there. If you want to be on the invitation list, please let someone on the Board and you will be sent an invitation. (Here is a link to the TVWS Board of Directors) Here is what we had tonight. Enjoy!
As our Son-In-Law Mac and his daughter Sophia slowly make their way along Camino de Santiago in northern Spain and pass by these wonderful “country” homes, we are at The Buzz eating some delightful food and drinking some special wines at the May Wine Dinner, “Holidays in May”. Cristie and her staff, Tommy and Peggy, did another great job. And thank-you Bailey for explaining Lacross to me. One of the best offerings tonight, although I don’t this it paired well with the selected wine, was the Albondiagas Soup – a Mexican meatball soup. And the Teruiyaki Pina Colada Burger with Zuchini Salad and Baked Beans was superb. Wonderful flavors. Here are soime photos from the evening. As a note, I did not get a good photo of the dessert, so yopu won’t see the Cookies and Strawberries. Oops!

And yes it was a great time! Thank you Robin, Gail and Bob Parker and Marnie and Mac for this delightful dinner party. Look at what we had plus some wonderful Blood Orange Mimosas. Yum! Thanks, too, to Chef Storm and Stephanie Hodge, Chef and Owners of Parma Ridge Winery and Bistro, and their Staff for making this visit such a joy! And now it is the season to be sure to call for reservations because it gets very full and busy. There is a link in the sidebar. And if the weather is nice, plan to sit on the patio. And before dinner we had a selection of sliders and truffle fries. Oh how good was that?
Oh yes. And some great mimosas, too! Stephanie makes and awesome mimosa. And while you are sipping your mimosa, check out Stephanie’s artwork on the walls! Yup! She did them all. Such talent.
Patrick Williamson, of Williamson Orchards and Vineyard, did a super good job in presenting one of the few “blind” tastings the TVWS has had last night. These wines were all from the Snake River AVA and all were Cabernet Sauvignon, although some were blended. Sorry to say, some of us were stumped! Oh well, more to learn – the process never ends. But then, that’s the fun of this organization and these programs.
The food, prepared by Swiss trained Chef Jake, was an Italian theme that was well pared with the wines. And the vanilla ice cream at the end, topped with a port-like dessert wine was super.
And now, the buffet!
If you were not here for this event, you missed an excellent one, one of the best of the year!
